Discover a lush canyon and a tranquil stream in Ballıkayalar Nature Park

Turkey is dotted with Nature Parks (Tabiat Parkları) and according to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, there are approximately 200 throughout the country. About a one-hour drive east of Istanbul, explorers can hike Ballikayalar Nature Park, located in Kocaeli. The park is situated in a canyon and features a stream flanked by limestone cliffs. It is a fairly easy hike for visitors, requiring some climbing and traversing across boulders, so bring reliable foot. Visitors can cool off in some of the swimming holes in the canyon. There is a paid parking area, picnic grounds and toilet facilities at the park entrance. Those who wish to camp can do so for a fee, and are advised to bring their own gear.
