Social Media Issue

July/August 2020

Love, hate, real or fake...our life with social media

While we turn to digital communication and social media to keep us connected and current, its fallibility is revealing itself. We have acquiesced to the ever-expanding reach into our lives—its benefits overshadowing its pitfalls. We overestimated the traditional gatekeepers' ability to keep pace with and verify the validity of the volume of information available to us. We underestimated how easily our communities could be manipulated and fragmented by disinformation. At the very least, we are starting to question the role of digital communication and social media in our lives.
